This absolutely gorgeous boy is probably the most vicious killer in the neighborhood, but you would never know it from his appearance. The first time I saw him he gave a soft meow and rolled over on his back looking for affection. He’s obviously a well-cared for family pet. Someone is brushing all that long, beautiful fur on a regular basis. However, it didn’t take long to discover that he spends much of his time outdoors lurking under our bird feeders. As someone who likes all sorts of animals, it’s not always simple to figure out how to respond to predators. Should I feed birds at all? We keep our own cats inside. We don’t know who owns this boy and we call him Red to distinguish him from Blackie, the feral cat. Despite his incredible effectiveness as a killer, it’s hard to not admire this boy’s beauty.
We have too many animals around here called Red. We also use that name for a Red Bellied Woodpecker and a pair of Red Tailed Hawks. We need to get more inventive.
He’s so so cuuuuute 🙂 !
I appreciate what you write, though. You keep your own cats inside responsibly, and yet have this one looking under the bird feeder. A difficult situ.
Can we see a photo of Blackie? I bet he’s just as gorgeous! But isn’t it conflicting – so chubby cute cute VISCIOUS!
Thanks for taking the time to comment.
I put a reply underneath. I’m always clicking the wrong thing.
I put up a post of Blackie a few weeks ago. He’s a beat up old stray and looks it. I assume he’s a stray, not truly feral, because he can be friendly and he begs for food. I’ve seen him in other parts of the neighborhood when I walk for exercise, so he covers an area of about a mile, perhaps. I’ve asked around to see if anybody wants him, but so far there’ve been no takers. Unfortunately, one of our two cats can’t stand any other cats and goes quite literally bonkers when she sees him outside the window.
Red isn’t especially chubby. It’s mostly fur.
Aw, I love them all. Poor Blackie. Will look at the pic. I love my cat pics 🙂
Such a pretty cat…….doing what cats do. 😦 He needs to find a good home with a can of cat food. Isn’t canned cat food just made out of plants? lol But you said he did look like he had an owner.
It is hard to watch nature sometimes.
I’m certain he has an owner and I could take a guess which house he lives in, but I’m not certain. I know cats eat birds and mice. It’s just that I don’t want to feel like I’m luring the little critters into a dangerous locale. The feeder itself is safe, but the ground feeding birds who are frequently underneath it are in danger. On the upside, none of them are endangered species. In fact, they’re all common.
We find a fair number of dead mice on the path. Now it the cat could just do something about the rabbits they eat all the flowers!
So pretty 🙂
